Ranking the Walt Disney World Hotels by the ease of taking a midday break in Disney World – by a Disney expert.
Pre-kids, I was always down for a full day at Disney World. Rope drop to park close – I may have been tired by the end of the day, but I was up for the challenge. Now with two kids, my philosophy has entirely changed. Finding time for a mid-day nap or break is essential to my survival in Disney World.
Because of that, I’ve come to strongly prefer Disney World hotels that make it easy to escape the parks midday. The faster you can get back to your room, the better your evening (and the rest of your trip) tends to be. And while Disney transportation is famously varied, not all hotels are created equal when it comes to nap efficiency. Here’s how Disney World hotels break down when your priority is getting back for a midday reset.
The Bus Only Options

These resorts rely entirely on Disney buses to get guests back from the parks, which makes them the least predictable for midday breaks. This category includes Disney’s All-Star Resorts, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, all of which offer only buses as an option.
While buses can be efficient at off-peak times, midday is rarely off-peak. Waits can be long, and once you’re on the bus, many of these resorts have multiple internal stops that add even more time. Animal Kingdom Lodge and Coronado Springs are both especially spread out, meaning the final walk to your room can feel endless when kids are overtired.
Bus-only resorts aren’t impossible for naps, but they require patience and flexibility. If midday breaks are a must, these tend to be the hardest places to pull it off smoothly.

The Boat Optional Resorts

Boat transportation offers a more relaxing alternative to buses, but it’s still slower and more variable than walking or the monorail in most cases.
This group involves hotels that offer boats as an option in addition to buses, including Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Now, it is important to note that, outside of Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge, the remainder of these hotels only offer boat transportation to Disney Springs, not the theme parks.
Boats are pleasant and scenic, but they’re slower and more susceptible to weather delays. Resorts like Port Orleans French Quarter benefit from being compact, which helps offset transportation time, while Saratoga Springs and Old Key West suffer from large internal layouts that can undo any time saved on the water.
These resorts are best for families who value a calm break over a quick one. You can nap, it just takes longer to get there.

The Skyliner Resorts

When it’s running smoothly, the Skyliner is one of the fastest and most enjoyable transportation options Disney offers. This category includes Disney’s Riviera Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, and Disney’s Pop Century Resort (though the EPCOT area resorts – more on those in a minute – also offer easy distance to the Skyliner).
For EPCOT and Hollywood Studios days, these resorts can make midday breaks surprisingly realistic. Riviera and Pop Century are especially efficient thanks to smaller footprints and straightforward station access. Caribbean Beach and Art of Animation can be trickier due to their size; a long walk after exiting the Skyliner can cancel out the time you saved in the air.
Skyliner resorts are high-reward, medium-risk nap hotels. When everything works, they’re excellent. When it doesn’t, you’re back on a bus.

The Monorail Resorts

When it comes to nap-friendly hotels, nothing beats staying near Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom resort area, including Bay Lake Tower, Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, offers a combination of walking paths, monorails, and boats that make midday escapes incredibly efficient.
At the Contemporary, you can literally walk back to your room. No waiting, no schedules, no transfers. The Grand Floridian now has a dedicated walking path as well, while the Polynesian offers both boat and monorail access. Even when one option is delayed, there’s usually a backup.
These hotels consistently rank at the top for midday nap access, especially for families spending a lot of time in Magic Kingdom. When you can be back in your room within 20 minutes of leaving the park, naps actually feel doable instead of aspirational.

The EPCOT Resort Area

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
If Magic Kingdom hotels win for nap speed, EPCOT-area resorts are a very close second—especially on EPCOT and Hollywood Studios days. Hotels like Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel, and the Walt Disney World Swan Reserve benefit from something incredibly powerful: walkability.
Being able to walk out of EPCOT’s International Gateway and be back in your room without waiting for any form of transportation is a game-changer. Boats are also available, but when kids are melting down, walking is often faster and more predictable.
These resorts make midday breaks feel natural instead of disruptive. You can leave the park, nap, reset, and still be back for an evening stroll or fireworks without feeling like you lost half the day.
