The Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is the most colorful of the Disney hotels. Take a trip to the islands, mon. This hotel is built for relaxation. Hammocks are strung up all around the beaches. Mmmm??? Take a nap on a beach.

The Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is a vacation destination in itself. The resort is dedicated to giving guests the experience of a true Caribbean getaway without leaving the U.S. In true Disney fashion, the Resort offers something for every member of the family on your perfect Disney World vacation.

The resort surrounds a 45 acre lake lined with white sand beaches called Barefoot Bay which has a island in the middle named Caribbean Cay (pronounced Key) which connects the resort via bridges.
Guest Rooms

Your perfect stay will be at one of the six villages complete with lush and tropical landscaping. Each village is a city to itself (or so it seems) and rooms reflect the Caribbean theme in the furnishings and architecture. Standard rooms are complete with tropical colors and ceiling fans create a relaxed atmosphere.
The Caribbean Beach Resort was the first of the Disney Moderate Resorts, which means the rooms are the largest of the moderates. They are about 340 square feet. (That compares with 260 for the Values and an average of around 400 in the Deluxes.)
The Caribbean Beach Resort has 5 different “villages” that make up the hotel. Each “village” has a pool, laundry and a bus stop (the most important thing).
- Trinadad
- Jamica
- Aruba
- Barbados
- Martinique
The rooms here are pretty standard hotel rooms. There are 3 “bed” options. A room with one king size bed, a room with two queen size beds and a room with two queens and a Murphy bed.

The decor is pretty much the new Disney standard. Wood looking floors, neutral colors and just a little Caribbean decoration touches.
Pirate Rooms

Several years ago, Disney started an experiment at the Caribbean Beach Resort. They gave a few rooms a little extra. They created “Pirate Rooms”. These rooms have some special decorations that make them “pirate-y”. The beds are made to look like a pirate ship, the dresser looks like boxes on a ship and the floor looks like old wood planks.

While the Pirate rooms are cool, they are the farthest rooms from Old Port Royale.

Lunch has a combination of sandwiches, steak, Jerk chicken and salads along with several good looking appetizers.

The dinner menu has many of the same appetizers, but no sandwiches and a couple of extra entrees. Both lunch and dinner has a good looking dessert menu. I can’t wait to try the Warm Chocolate Pudding.

Banana Cabana is the pool bar at the Caribbean Beach Resort that features tropical drinks and a few quick bites including crab cakes and jerk chicken wings.
Pools
Each of the villages has a pool, and at Old Port Royale, there is a large pool with a pirate theme (wonder why that is?).
All those pools and a lake too. Each of the pools are heated and are warm enough to swim in even when it’s cold outside. (We’ve seen adults in the pools when the temperature was just above freezing.)
Lifeguards are on duty during posted operating hours. Officially pools are open seasonally, which means when it gets cold, the pools close and lifeguards go inside where it’s warm.
The Marina

At Barefoot Bay Marina you can rent boats, bikes, sailboats, canoes and much more. Sail the lake in an 8 person pontoon boat or rent a personal speed boat (SeaRaycer) and kick up some waves. SeaRaycers can be driven by anyone 16 or above.
There is a promenade around the lake for bicycles. It’s almost a mile and a half long. You must be 18 to rent bicycles. There’s even a 2 seater for a romantic ride.
Transportation
Transportation from the CBR is pretty simple. You either drive or jump on one of Disney’s Luxury Motor Coaches (buses). The buses run from the hotel to all the theme parks, water parks and Disney Springs.
Location
The Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is almost in the middle of Disney World. It’s just a couple of blocks from Disney’s Hollywood Studios and a short distance to the back entrance to EPCOT. The Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdoms are a bit of a drive.

Dad’s Bottom Line
Dad didn’t have a great experience at the Caribbean Beach Resort, (Dad’s Caribbean Beach experience) but It probably wasn’t the hotels fault. The new bedding (and better weather) might make a difference.
