One of the biggest Disney World mistakes I’ve made as a parent had nothing to do with ride strategy or dining reservations — it was underestimating transportation. After a long park day, standing in a slow-moving bus line with a wiggly, tired, and increasingly impatient kid is a special kind of challenge. At that point, the magic starts wearing thin fast. 

Choosing the right resort can completely change how a Disney World vacation feels for families. Some hotels make transportation surprisingly easy, with walkable access, continuously moving systems like the Skyliner, or multiple ways to get back to your room. When you’re traveling with kids who are done waiting the second they leave the park, these differences matter more than almost anything else. Disney’s Contemporary Resort

If transportation patience is not your family’s strength, Disney’s Contemporary Resort is about as close to a cheat code as you can get. The biggest advantage here is simple: proximity. You can hop on the monorail and be at Magic Kingdom within minutes, and transferring to EPCOT is just as easy. There’s very little buildup or waiting involved compared to bus-heavy resorts, which makes mornings smoother and end-of-night exits far less stressful.

But the real parenting win is the walking path to Magic Kingdom. When my kid has energy to burn — or desperately needs to keep moving instead of standing still — being able to walk straight back to the hotel is invaluable. Sometimes skipping transportation entirely is faster than waiting, and it turns the end of the night into a decompression walk instead of another line to stand in. For families who hate waiting, that flexibility alone makes the Contemporary one of the smartest stays on property.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort offers something I’ve learned to value more than almost anything at Disney World: options. Yes, you may encounter a short wait for the monorail during peak times, especially in the mornings or right after fireworks, but having multiple transportation choices makes a huge difference when traveling with impatient kids.

Guests can use the monorail, hop on a boat to Magic Kingdom, or walk over to the Transportation and Ticket Center for additional monorail access. That means if one line looks overwhelming, you can pivot quickly instead of feeling stuck. For families, that flexibility often prevents meltdowns before they start. The Polynesian doesn’t eliminate waiting entirely, but it gives you enough alternatives that transportation rarely feels like a bottleneck.

Disney’s Beach Club Resort (and Most EPCOT-Area Resorts)

Most of the EPCOT-area resorts — especially Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn — are some of the best choices for families who want to minimize transportation waits altogether. The biggest reason is walkability. From these hotels, you can simply walk into EPCOT through the International Gateway entrance to bypass buses, main entrance crowds, and transportation lines.

Hollywood Studios is also accessible by Skyliner (from EPCOT), walking paths, or boat, giving families multiple easy ways to get around without relying solely on buses. I’ve found this setup especially helpful for midday breaks, when kids need downtime but the thought of waiting for transportation feels overwhelming. Being able to leave a park and be back at your hotel in minutes changes the entire rhythm of your day.

Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Disney’s Pop Century Resort proves you don’t need a Deluxe Resort budget to make transportation easier — though it does come with one important reality check. Because Pop Century is so popular, transportation lines can still build up during very busy periods. You may see waits at buses or Skyliner stations at peak times, especially first thing in the morning or right after park closing.

The difference-maker, though, is the Skyliner. Unlike buses that arrive on a schedule, the Skyliner moves continuously, which keeps lines flowing and typically reduces how long you’re standing still. Even when there’s a queue, it tends to move quickly, which makes a huge difference when traveling with kids who struggle with waiting. For families looking for value pricing without sacrificing transportation convenience, Pop Century remains one of the most practical and parent-friendly choices at Disney World.
