While character meet and greets are scattered throughout the resort’s two theme parks and three hotels, one of the best ways to ensure you meet your favorites is to book a character dining experience.

If you’re looking for a meal that’s a true experience, you can’t go wrong with any one of Disneyland’s character dining experiences. Below, we’re sharing everything you need to know before you book a dining reservation.

What is Character Dining at Disneyland?

Disneyland character dining is a dining experience that pairs a sit-down meal with the chance to meet beloved Disney characters.

All Disneyland restaurants that offer character dining follow a similar format, though there can be some slight differences. Character dining is only offered at table service restaurants, so you and the family will have a dedicated table and server. While you’re seated, characters will come around and stop for a visit, which is your chance to snap some photos, get autographs, and chat with face characters.

The food offered, meal style, and character lineup will vary depending on the exact restaurant you’re dining at. However, you can expect character dining to include a buffet style meal – only one offers a different format (more on that in a minute).

Just note that no matter which of Disneyland’s character dining options you choose, the characters can vary throughout the year, so you may not see every character on this list!

Additionally, two restaurants – Storytellers Cafe and Goofy’s Kitchen – do change their character dining experiences throughout the year. The same cast of characters can be expected, but the experience will change to feature different themes. For example, Goofy’s Kitchen offers special Halloween, Christmas, and springtime themed meals, with characters in exclusive festive outfits. And Storytellers Cafe also offers autumn-themed and holiday-themed experiences with characters in exclusive attire for each season.

If you’re hoping to snag a table for any of Disneyland’s character dining experiences, you’ll want to do so as soon as the 60-day window opens for advance dining reservations. Character meals are incredibly popular, and they book up fast. We recommend booking as soon as you possibly can.

It’s especially important to book right at that 60-day mark if you’re hoping to experience one of the seasonal versions of any character meal. These are always in high demand, and because they’re only offered for a limited time, reservations disappear even faster than usual.

How long does Disneyland character dining last?

It ultimately depends on how quickly characters move from table to table and how slowly or quickly you enjoy your meal. On average, a character dining experience at Disneyland lasts anywhere from 1 hour to 90 minutes. You’ll want to plan to leave enough time for each character to visit your table – which is about 90 minutes.
