A Disneyland Park institution since it first opened along with the theme park on July 17, 1955, Plaza Inn is a quick-service restaurant with plenty of history. The iconic Main Street eatery serves up classic American fare – but what it’s really beloved for is its crispy fried chicken dinner.

As one of Walt’s favorite places to eat inside Disneyland, Plaza Inn (which was originally called the Red Wagon Inn) used to welcome VIP guests. Today, anyone can step inside the 19th-century restaurant and enjoy its delicious food, which is served from breakfast through dinner.

You’ll find Plaza Inn at the end of Main Street, U.S.A., just before you make your way into Tomorrowland. The restaurant is next to both the Little Red Wagon and the park’s Baby Center.

While Plaza Inn may be best-known for its heaping plates of fried chicken, gravy-topped mashed potatoes, and green beans, this restaurant actually offers two distinctly different meal services.

In the morning, Plaza Inn offers the Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park character dining experience. Guests who visit for breakfast will get an all-you-care-to-enjoy spread featuring breakfast classics as characters stop by their tables. 

For lunch and dinner, Plaza Inn offers traditional quick-service dining, where guests can stop by and pick up their plates, counter-service style. This is where you’ll find the fried chicken, along with other American comfort foods.

Additionally, if you’re interested in securing reserved viewing for entertainment like A Christmas Fantasy Parade or Fantasmic!, Plaza Inn does typically offer dining packages. These do need to be booked in advance (just like you’d make a dining reservation for a table service restaurant), but they are simply a dedicated meal type reserved for a specific date.

Advance Dining Reservations

While quick-service restaurants typically don’t offer any kind of advance dining reservations, Plaza Inn is a bit different. If you’re hoping to experience Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park, you will actually need to make a dining reservation.

Similarly, if you’d like to book one of Plaza Inn’s dining packages, you will need to make a reservation for that package on a select date in advance. 

However, if you’re interested in the regular quick-service lunch and dinner menu at Plaza Inn, you won’t need to make a reservation at all. 

Is Plaza Inn Kid-Friendly?

With a focus on American comfort food and plenty of choices that are kid-friendly on the menu, Plaza Inn is a great option for families. No one will be disappointed with the food here, especially if anyone in your group is a fried chicken fan!

And if you’re looking for a great character dining experience, Plaza Inn is the perfect choice. Not only is all of the food served during the meal familiar for little ones, but it’s also a great opportunity to have a character meal inside Disneyland Park (in fact, it’s the only one!). 

Lastly, I personally love the atmosphere at Plaza Inn for dining with kids. It’s incredibly kid-friendly, thanks to the indoor and outdoor dining areas that offer plenty of shade and space for kids who are wiggly or a bit noisy. If you dine outside, kids are easily entertained with people watching and the sights and sounds of both Main Street and Tomorrowland – and who doesn’t want to dine with Sleeping Beauty Castle in the background?
