With its official opening date of November 7th fast approaching, Disney’s newest Animal Kingdom attraction — Zootopia: Better Zoogether — is now in its preview phase. We got a sneak peek during media day, and here’s everything you need to know.
Located inside the Tree of Life Theater, this 4D show replaces the longtime (and admittedly dated) It’s Tough To Be a Bug. While Zootopia: Better Zoogether is more of an overlay than a brand-new attraction, there are plenty of reasons it could become a new family hallmark experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
A True Family Attraction at Animal Kingdom
Reviews across social media have been mixed, but after seeing it twice — once solo and once with my family — I came away impressed. The biggest takeaway? This is a true family attraction.
If you’re a thrill-seeker looking for fast-paced, high-intensity rides, this might not be your scene — and that’s okay. But for parents and families, it’s a hit. During my visits, I overheard several parents saying things like, “My kids are going to love this,” and I couldn’t agree more.
Our six-year-old daughter, Riley, laughed so hard at one point that she cried — one of only three times in her life that’s ever happened. That pure joy is what Disney magic is all about. As the parks evolve, it’s important to remember that not every new attraction is meant for us long-time fans; some are meant for the next generation. Zootopia: Better Zoogether is silly, heartwarming, and designed to make kids (and parents) laugh together.
Hidden Details and Zootopia Easter Eggs
If you loved Zootopia, you’ll appreciate the clever details and hidden nods sprinkled throughout the attraction. While the winding trail around the Tree of Life remains largely untouched, the entrance and queue area bring Zootopia’s world to life.
Look for pun-filled posters, nods to Disney Legends (including one very familiar-looking “mouse” who resembles Imagineer Joe Rohde), and an interior queue packed with fun visual gags. One can’t-miss highlight is the “Pawdora” section, Zootopia’s take on the real-life Pandora jewelry brand. Fun fact: Imagineering actually worked with Pandora to make sure every detail was spot-on!
Take your time exploring the queue — it’s a treasure trove of details for fans of both the movie and Disney design.
From It’s Tough To Be a Bug to Zootopia: Better Zoogether
Unless you’re a diehard A Bug’s Life fan, the previous show had run its course. The film debuted back in 1998 — long before most of today’s kids were born — and the attraction’s creepy-crawly effects were a bit too intense for many younger guests.
Our daughter Riley, for instance, found the bug “stings” and spiders dropping from the ceiling downright terrifying. In contrast, Zootopia: Better Zoogether trades jump scares for laughter. Clawhauser replaces Hopper; the 4D effects are playful and funny, and the story feels like a bridge between the first film and the upcoming Zootopia 2 (releasing shortly after the attraction’s debut).
This isn’t just a refresh — it’s a reimagining that makes the show far more accessible and enjoyable for families with young kids.
A Fun, Feel-Good Break for the Whole Family
Is Zootopia: Better Zoogether Animal Kingdom’s next E-Ticket attraction? No — but that was never the goal. Instead, it’s a charming, heartwarming addition that fits perfectly into the park’s lineup.
It’s fun, it’s silly, and it captures the spirit of Zootopia’s message of community and togetherness. Seeing Riley’s face light up during the show made it clear: this is the kind of attraction Disney needs more of.
You might not rush there at rope drop, but when you’re ready for a break during your Animal Kingdom day, Zootopia: Better Zoogether is the perfect spot to sit back, laugh, and spend a few joyful minutes with Clawhauser, Nick, and Judy.
