Attraction Overview

The enormous orange half-pipe that is RC Racer dominates the Toy Story Playland in Worlds of Pixar. The ride vehicle, modeled after Andy’s remote control, moves back and forth, gathering momentum and racing further into the sky with each trip across a 25 metre-high (82 feet) steel canyon. Disney’s own description of the attraction highlights how the action happens “over and over again” which I’m going to file under “technically correct”. RC Racer moves back and forward three times as it builds momentum, reaching Maximum Thrills on the third set, and then begins slowing down, which takes an additional three back-and-forths to come to a full halt. All in all, the action lasts less than a minute, which you may wish to take into consideration if the queue is long.

Queue and Storyline

Like most of the Toy Story-based attractions in Disney parks, the conceit is that human guests have been shrunk to the size of Andy’s toys, and the rides and other environments have been devised by Andy with building materials like Tinkertoys, Christmas tree lights, and retro games. RC Racer is meant to be a half-pipe that Andy has constructed to put his remote-control car through its paces, but the queue lacks some of the whimsy of other Toy Story attractions. The entire length of the queue from entrance to boarding is defined by traffic barricades, which don’t seem very much like toys at all, and the ride itself is very brief, though it seems to be long enough for the enthusiastic crowd.

Accessibility

  • Attraction with little or no flash
  • Transfer from your wheelchair essential
  • Guide and assistance dogs not accepted
  • Expectant mothers may not ride.
  • WARNING! For your safety, you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions or disabilities that could be aggravated by this adventure.

On-Ride Photo

There is no on–ride photo on RC Racer.

Is RC Racer Kid-Friendly?

Officially, RC Racer is said to interest “Kids, Tweens, Teens, Adults”… so pretty much everybody. In actual fact this is one of those attractions that is rated “Big Thrills”, and some younger guests may decide that the thrills are a little bigger than they anticipated.

Motion Sickness

If you have any history of motion sickness, you are probably going to want to sit this one out. RC Racer does not spin, the movement is all back and forth, but it is surprisingly intense, if brief.
