Considering visiting Oga’s Cantina with kids? One parent shares her experience, and why she won’t be re-visiting with children.

My son is a Star Wars kid, raised by his Star Wars-obsessed Dad, and I, a mom who has truly grown to love the franchise. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is our favorite land whenever we are in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We’ll spend hours there, walking around and taking it all in. We’ve done it all: built a lightsaber, rode Rise of Resistance repeatedly, piloted the Millennium Falcon, and even met the Mandalorian himself, But, snagging a reservation at Oga’s Cantina has eluted us time after time. 

Our luck finally changed during our last trip; we secured a reservation for 5 PM, and everyone in our house cheered. Since Oga’s first opened, it has been on our must-do list, and we were thrilled to finally experience it.

Oga’s Cantina at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

After enjoying the Tower of Terror and Slinky Dog Dash, we were excited to spend our evening in Batuu. We approached the hostess stand to check in for our reservation and learned we would receive a text message when our table was ready. While we waited, we explored the area momentarily and even bumped into Rey, where we took a picture together. Soon after, our phone buzzed, indicating it was time for our reservation.

I was so excited to walk through the door. The place is electric and straight out of a Star Wars movie; the theming doesn’t disappoint, and you are fully immersed in a local Batuu watering hole. I thought I was prepared for this experience; I love Star Wars, and so does my family, but I can tell you honestly I wouldn’t go back, especially with my kid. 

Oga’s Cantina with Kids: Our Experience

I know, I know. All you have to do is read the description of Oga’s Cantina on the My Disney Experience app to understand that this is not your typical bar/lounge. I’ve seen videos and knew it was a lively place full of music and noise. However, I didn’t realize how overstimulating it would be. 

We were seated at a table, which was a nice perk since a table isn’t always guaranteed. However, we shared the table with other travelers, which aligned with the overall theme of Oga’s but was unique and unexpected.

I wanted to take in the scenery, enjoy the environment, drink wine, and talk with my family. However, having a group of strangers sitting beside and across from us felt odd. It’s very different from sitting next to someone on a bus; here, we ate and drank at the same table as people we had never met. Personally, it just felt strange. 

This shared table environment is fantastic for extroverted people like my husband, who started conversations with the other guests. Still, it felt very daunting for me and my kiddo, who are more introverted. There were no other kids at our table; it was all adults. My son wasn’t feeling the vibe of Oga’s; he kept asking when we were leaving. He came, he saw, and he was ready to go. You only have a 45-minute allotment, and we left as soon as we paid our tab. 

Why I Won’t Return to Oga’s Cantina with Kids

While many bars and lounges around Disney property are well-themed and lively, like Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, Oga’s Cantina is exceptionally crowded. The atmosphere wasn’t the most kid-friendly place, and I wouldn’t take my son back until he was much older. The standing-room, shared-table atmosphere is why I wouldn’t choose to return. I prefer to have a table with my family or group only when we enjoy a bite to eat or a drink, especially when we want to take a break from a busy Disney park.

The music, drinks, and snacks were incredible. Batuu is an extraordinary place, and visiting Oga’s Cantina is an experience everyone should have at least once; you might love it and want to see it again or be happy only to experience it once, like me.
