To say nothing of the increase in price of character meals, food, resort stays, merchandise, ticket add-ons and all of the things that spell fun at the Most Magical Place on Earth. But even with all of the coverage that accompanies these price increases, Research says 73% of Disney goers were surprised by the trip’s cost, finding admission tickets (33%) and in-park food (31%) the most expensive.
Disney World Price Increases: What to Know
Now, let’s think about that for a minute. Those people cited in the study as having been “surprised by the trip’s cost” are Disney goers. Not newbies, or people who have only a passing interest in a Disney trip. These are people who planned a trip and went. Let’s hope that their surprise happened months before their trip, while doing research, not standing at the check-out, MagicBand at the ready.
You don’t have to like Disney World price increases, but you shouldn’t be surprised by them.
Disney World: Land of a Thousand Prices
Why is it such a daunting task to keep track of Disney World prices? Because there are a lot of them! The example often cited as a comparative standard is a one-day, one-park ticket, and in all the years that I have been planning and executing Walt Disney World vacations for my family and others to do the same, I have never actually purchased one of these. If you are planning a Disney trip, your ticket prices will vary wildly based on the time of year you plan to book, and how many park days you are planning. Unless you are duplicating the time and duration of your most recent trip, a strict one to one comparison is difficult to achieve. One FinanceBuzz study attempted this through use of the “Wayback Machine” at the Internet Archive. This peek into the past revealed that, while the base, low-end ticket price had only increased 21% between 2014 and 2024 (against real inflation of 32%), the top-end ticket price increased by 91% in the same period.

Disney World Often Raises Prices at the Same Time Each Year
Disney World ticket price increases happen regularly, to the point of becoming predictable. In early October of 2024, when Disneyland announced increases to its ticket pricing, entertainment industry publication Deadline said “Summer is over, so that means it’s time for the annual Disneyland price hike.” Disney World followed with its own Annual Pass ticket price increases two weeks later, just as it has in recent years. But remember, just because that is how it has been does not mean they can’t change it whenever they like.

Disney’s price calendar for standard date-based theme park tickets is updated and extended on a rolling basis throughout the year, subject to demand. These tickets require you to choose a start date at purchase, but while prices may be subject to small changes through the year, generally a larger price change will happen once a year. While October and November have been favored dates for this increase in recent years, this is by no means set in stone.
Again, the problem of comparison of many options is a factor, but at time of writing, the top-end pricing for these tickets increased by $10 per guest per day over the pricing at this time last year. It adds up fast.
Don’t Forget: Food and Experience Prices Can Increase, Too
This is where your budget can be well and truly blown… or emerge intact if you take the time to prepare, plan and save accordingly. Remember those Disney goers from the study who were surprised by how expensive dining was? The menus for every Disney World restaurant are available online, and any price increases that may occur between your Advance Dining Reservation 60 days prior and your reservation date are easily answered by a cancellation on your part. And if you are outraged that the Bread Service at Saana at Animal Kingdom Villas has apparently increased in price by 120% over the last ten years, you may choose to eat somewhere else.
2024 saw the introduction of Lightning Lane Premier Pass, the latest variant of Disney’s jump-the-queue options that has the potential to hold you upside down and shake all of the money out of your pockets if you let it. Do your preparation, set your limits, and stick to them. This is a new product, and doesn’t officially count as a price increase, except yes it is.
Plan Your Disney World Vacation Now to Lock in Current Prices
Those ticket prices that have gone up are not coming down. You can keep your cards close to your vest in hopes to the contrary, but the house… er, the Mouse always wins.
Certainly Disney World price increases may inform your decision to plan a trip to Walt Disney World in 2025 or not, but once you have decided to take the plunge, your best chance to save money is by planning ahead to lock in current prices with the ticket and resort packages that run throughout the year.
