The EPCOT Italy Pavilion is one of the most beautiful areas of the park. The statues, the architecture the fountains it’s all beautiful. You can also get some good food and do some serious shopping.
The Architecture
All around the pavilion, there are beautiful things to see. Even the buildings create the look of Rome, Venice, and even Florence. As you stroll through the pavilion, you’ll see what looks like the Trevi Fountain, architecture taken from the Sistine Chapel. And a recreation of St. Mark’s Campanile (bell tower), as well as a replica of the Doge’s Palace.
The Food
Want some Italian food? You are in luck. This is the place to get some good Italian food and even a good pizza made from ingredients shipped over from the mother country. Tutto Italia Ristorante is the restaurant that dominates this area. The restaurant is run by world famous (yes, more than just Disney World) California chef Joachim Splichal.
Entertainment
Throughout the day, troupes of entertainers stroll the plaza, entertaining (that’s what entertainers do) guests with song, dance, clowns and even an group of traveling actors. Sometimes the statues will even talk to you.
Shopping
The Il Belle Cristallo has shops with handmade fine leather goods, Murano crystal, Capodimonte floral and glass figures, glassware and items. At Delizie Italiane you can pick up wonderful Italian chocolates and candies. La Cucina Italia has high end cookware, gourmet foods, pastries and wine.
A little history
The EPCOT Italy Pavilion opened in 1982 when EPCOT first opened. Original plans called for a gondola ride and Roman ruins to be added in Phase II of the construction. For some reason, these plans were cancelled in mid construction which is a shame.
