Plan the perfect park morning with our guide to the one ride you should do first at every Disney World park.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned after plenty of early park mornings at Walt Disney World, it’s that your first ride can make or break your entire day — at least if you’re trying to ride popular coasters or in-demand Disney dark rides. Knock out the right attraction early, and you’ll feel like you’re ahead of the crowds for hours. Choose wrong, and you’re playing catch-up with long waits before you’ve even had your first snack.
For me, prioritizing the rides that either build the longest lines the fastest or are simply better first thing in the morning is key. So, I’m identifying just one ride in each park that’s well worth heading to first (and why each is worth it).
Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
At Magic Kingdom, this is a worthy first stop every time if you love a family-friendly rollercoaster. And honestly, it’s the easiest decision of the four parks. While Magic Kingdom is home to plenty of in-demand attractions (like the new and popular TRON Lightcycle / Run), Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is one of those rides that just never really has a “good” time to ride later in the day. The wait builds quickly after park open and tends to stay high from morning through fireworks.

That’s what makes rope dropping it such a smart move. You can often get on with a much shorter wait than you’ll see for the rest of the day, and it immediately takes a major time commitment off your plate. With limited Lightning Lane availability and consistently high demand, getting this one done early frees you up to enjoy the rest of the park without constantly checking the current wait time and second-guessing your plan.
EPCOT: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
If you’re kicking off your day at EPCOT, Cosmic Rewind is the ride I recommend prioritizing first because it’s simply the hardest one to fit in later without a long wait. It’s incredibly popular, and once the park gets going, the line reflects that pretty quickly.

Heading here first lets you stay ahead of that rush. In my experience, it’s one of the biggest “time savers” in EPCOT if you do it early, because it prevents you from having to dedicate a huge chunk of your afternoon to a single ride. Instead, you can move on to other attractions — or just enjoy World Showcase — without that looming wait hanging over you.
Hollywood Studios: Slinky Dog Dash
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Slinky Dog Dash is always my first move, even though it’s not the most intense ride in the park. The reality is it’s one of the most in-demand attractions, and the wait time climbs fast and stays high all day long.

There’s also a comfort factor here that many people overlook. Toy Story Land has very little shade, and once the sun is up, that wait can feel much longer than it actually is as you sweat in that Florida sunshine. Getting in line first thing in the morning means cooler temperatures, a shorter wait, and a much better overall experience before the crowds fully settle in.
Animal Kingdom: Kilimanjaro Safaris
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Kilimanjaro Safaris is always where I start—and it’s one of the few rope drop strategies that isn’t just about saving time. Early in the morning is when the animals are most active, which completely changes the experience compared to the middle of the day.

On top of that, you can usually walk right on if you head there at park open. That combination of a short wait and better animal activity makes it one of the most rewarding first rides anywhere in Disney World. It’s not just efficient; it’s the best version of the attraction.
