While some Disney theme parks, like Disney World’s four parks, offer scheduled character meet and greet locations throughout the park, Disneyland operates a bit differently. While there are a few scheduled character meet and greet locations, they’re few and far between. At Disneyland, most characters roam around – or appear unexpectedly, giving guests no set schedule to follow.
That roaming character setup means you never know when or who you might encounter as you explore the theme park. From bands of Storm Troopers on Batuu to Gaston, Gepetto, and the Mad Hatter wandering in Fantasyland to Captain Jack Sparrow popping up in New Orleans Square, you can come across characters anywhere within Disneyland, at any time.

Character Encounters at Disneyland
Like we mentioned above, character encounters at Disneyland typically come in one of two forms:
- A dedicated meet and greet, with characters available at set locations and during dedicated hours
- Roaming characters throughout the park
While it can be difficult to determine if your favorite character will be out and about on the day of your visit, it’s common for certain characters to appear regularly. So, while there may not be a set schedule for most of the park’s characters, you can still predict who you’re likely to see and meet ahead of your Disneyland visit.
Official Character Meet and Greets at Disneyland Park

There are four dedicated character meet and greet spots (or character experiences) within Disneyland. Here’s where you’ll find each one of the available character meet and greets at Disneyland Park:
- Meet Disney Princesses at Royal Hall: An indoor meet and greet in Fantasyland featuring a rotating cast of Disney Princesses
- Meet Mickey Mouse at Mickey’s House: An indoor meet and greet in Mickey’s Toontown starring Mickey himself in one of two outfits
- Meet Minnie Mouse at Minnie’s House: An outdoor meet and greet in Mickey’s Toontown featuring Minnie
- Meet Tinker Bell in Pixie Hollow: An outdoor meet and greet where guests can meet Tinker Bell (Currently closed for refurbishment)
Pro Tip: You can check the Disneyland app for additional character meet and greet locations, which will give you dedicated spots where characters can often be found. However, this in-app feature is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes, times will be listed; sometimes it’ll simply note where characters are likely to appear. It also isn’t comprehensive and doesn’t cover all character locations park-wide (more on that below), but it does offer a general starting point for first-time visitors.
Common Character Locations at Disneyland Park
Walk through any land within Disneyland, and you’re likely to spot at least one character. Disneyland’s roaming characters will stop in dedicated locations throughout the park, forming impromptu lines so guests can snap photos, get hugs, and ask for autographs.
Typically, the Cast Members accompanying a character will help organize lines and share timing with guests (for example, if you join the queue to meet Mickey, the Cast Member will warn guests who are waiting when Mickey only has 5 minutes left). But beyond this, there’s really no set time or rotation you can rely on to ensure you catch your favorite characters.

If you’re looking to meet classic Disney characters in special seasonal attire, you’ll want to stick to Main Street. Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto (and often Chip ‘n’ Dale, too) will be scattered around Town Square throughout the day. They come and go, but they are consistently located here from park opening into the evening.
Pro Tip: If you’re hoping to meet Disney Princesses – or even villains, like Gaston or the Evil Queen from Snow White – stop by Snow White Grotto and the wishing well. Located just off to the side of Sleeping Beauty Castle (the Matterhorn side), characters often pop into this quiet area for 20-30 minutes, and any guests who stop by often get plenty of one-on-one time since it’s off the beaten path.
Spontaneous Character Encounters

In addition to the character meet and greets you’ll find sprinkled throughout the park, Disneyland is also home to a lot of spontaneous character encounters. Often, you’ll be walking through the park only to discover Chewbacca is playing peek-a-boo with you – or Alice and the Mad Hatter have sat down at your table to have some tea.
Characters will literally appear anywhere, any time, so you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled. I know I’ve been surprised to have Gaston interrupt breakfast with my family at Red Rose Taverne, and I’ve had characters like Peter Pan pop out of nowhere to chat with us as we park our stroller.
Fantasyland and Mickey’s Toontown are particularly great places for these spontaneous encounters. Each morning, and at other times during the day, Alice and Mad Hatter will sit down at the tables near Casey Jr. Circus Train and have tea parties with guests. Gaston strolls the entire land solo, interrupting guests (and sometimes bantering with other characters like Genie) as he goes.
And in Mickey’s Toontown, classic Disney characters roam through the land frequently. They always stop by CenTOONial Park and pass Goofy’s How-to-Play Yard, which is where most kids are playing. There’s usually no official line for these spontaneous characters, so you’ll need to be in the right place at the right time – but kids can easily turn around during playtime and find Clarabelle, Pete, or even Donald right behind them.
Character Dining at Disneyland
You’ll find just one character dining experience inside Disneyland Park: Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park at Plaza Inn.
Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park is a hearty breakfast buffet featuring characters like Chip ‘n’ Dale, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and Pluto. The only guaranteed character you’ll meet during this character dining experience is Minnie Mouse herself, as all other characters rotate (meaning you may see a totally different lineup each time you dine).
Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park is offered most mornings, but keep in mind that Plaza Inn does not offer any other character meals. Lunch and dinner are quick-service, with no character appearances.
