When it comes to legendary dining destinations, The Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland is one iconic place to pick up a meal. Once home to rousing entertainment and now a cool place to grab a quick-service meal, this Frontierland staple dates back to 1955.

In fact, if you’re hoping to soak up Disneyland history, you can’t skip The Golden Horseshoe. It actually opened four days before the rest of the theme park, with an unofficial opening for Walt Disney, his wife Lillian, and guests welcomed in to celebrate the couple’s 30th anniversary. 

The Golden Horseshoe Location

The Golden Horseshoe sits right in the heart of Frontierland, just across the walkway from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the loading dock for the Mark Twain Riverboat and Sailing Ship Columbia.

The Golden Horseshoe Menu

While The Golden Horseshoe is quieter these days and doesn’t quite draw a crowd like it used to, this quick-service restaurant is open for lunch and dinner service (plus snacks, if you’re just interested in something sweet). 

Here, the menu is very streamlined, with just a couple of savory items and a few ice cream-based options. There are some seasonal offerings available here throughout the year, like special tumblers or sundaes with more unique or season-based ingredients. But ultimately, there are two main items you’ll always find on the menu: wraps and chicken tenders.

Advance Dining Reservations

The Golden Horseshoe is a quick-service restaurant, so there are no advance dining reservations (ADRs) available here.

If you’re hoping to save time, however, you can use Disneyland’s Mobile Order service to skip waiting in a physical line. While the wait usually isn’t too bad here even during peak dining times, Mobile Order makes it easy to plan ahead, place an order before the family gets hungry, and keep hanger at bay.

Is The Golden Horseshoe Kid-Friendly?

Air-conditioned with plenty of indoor seating plus kid-friendly fare on the menu, The Golden Horseshoe is an excellent place to bring kids of all ages. While it’s certainly nowhere fancy, it is spacious enough to let kids be, well, kids – all while parents cool off and rest their feet (and backs).

While there’s no longer an ongoing show inside The Golden Horseshoe, there is plenty in the form of entertainment and people-watching for kids. If you’re visiting with older kids, you can check out some Disneyland history, like Walt’s former private box upstairs to the right of the stage. Or, take a look at the special decor inside, like the wall-mounted longhorns and 1850s-style chandeliers chosen by Walt and designed by Disney Legend Harper Goff.

And when it’s time to eat, you’ll have no issue finding something for everyone. The food isn’t amazing here, but it is perfectly palatable for the whole family. There are ice cream samplers, floats, and sundaes for anyone with a sweet tooth, plus chicken tenders and kids’ meals that offer healthier alternatives. It’s simple, but it’s effective food.
