Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is like the biggest picnic you’ve ever been to, complete with a loud and lively country western band, all you can eat American favorites, and cowboys showing off with rope tricks, leading line dances, and playing games with everyone!

Even Mickey and the gang want to get in on all the fun! Every family looks forward to the summertime, when barbeques and picnics take over our evenings and weekends. It’s even better at Walt Disney World.

Since this is a dinner show  and character dance party, you will be able to interact with characters like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip, and Dale, but only on the dance floor.  The characters do not make rounds to visit each table like at most character dining locations – you have to go to them.

Decor

This is backyard BBQ picnic to the extreme!  Long picnic tables fill the room, and wooden crates decorate the open air pavilion.  Red, white, and blue swagging and an American Flag hung over the stage at the front of the dance floor, and characters decked out in cowboy outfits or BBQ chef attire add to the country western theme.

Hours and Location

Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is a seasonal experience.  Shows are on Thursday and Saturday nights from March – December at 6:30-8:00pm.

This dinner show is located in the Outdoor Pavilion at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, making it easiest to get to from the Magic Kingdom or if you’re staying at on of the Magic Kingdom area resorts (or if, as Dad always suggests, you have a car at Walt Disney World).

Dad’s Bottom Line

While it’s pricey for barbeque fare, this is a great experience for families – especially ones with smaller children!  The atmosphere allows kids to get involved dancing and cheering, so you don’t have to worry about their excitement disturbing other guests.  Another plus: you know your kids will love the food and get their fill – all while getting to dance with some of their favorite characters!
