Kona Island

by | Aug 15, 2025 | Dining, Walt Disney World

Small in size but big on flavor, Kona Island is a hidden gem tucked just outside Kona Café at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This compact quick-service counter offers everything from specialty coffee and pastries in the morning to freshly made sushi and sweet treats later in the day. Whether you’re looking for a grab-and-go breakfast or a low-key afternoon pick-me-up, Kona Island is an underrated stop that delivers tropical flavors in a laid-back setting.

Kona Island Location

You’ll find Kona Island on the second floor of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, right across from ʻOhana and adjacent to Kona Café. It’s located along the open hallway that overlooks the resort’s iconic lobby, making it an easy stop on your way to the monorail or before heading to Magic Kingdom.

Kona Island Menu

Kona Island operates two different menus depending on the time of day — offering coffee and pastries in the morning, and sushi, sweets, and snacks in the afternoon and evening.

In the morning, you’ll find fresh pastries, muffins, danishes, and one of the best cups of coffee on Disney property, including specialty lattes and cold brew options. It’s a great alternative to the main dining rooms for a quick bite before heading out.

In the afternoon and evening, the space transforms into a sushi counter, offering beautifully prepared rolls, nigiri, and small plates that pair perfectly with a tropical cocktail or glass of sake. It’s one of the few places at Disney where you can grab high-quality sushi without needing a dining reservation.

Disney Dining Plan

Kona Island, unfortunately, does not accept the Disney Dining Plan, so you won’t be eligible to use quick service or snack credits at this location.

Advance Dining Reservations

Advance Dining Reservations are not accepted as it’s a walk-up counter service. Additionally, Mobile Order is also currently not offered at Kona Island. That said, lines are typically short and service is relatively quick. You may just want to plan for a bit of a longer wait in the mornings, as guests grab their cup of coffee before heading out to the monorail.

Is Kona Island Kid-Friendly?

Yes, Kona Island is kid-friendly, though it may appeal more to older kids and adults due to its limited menu and quieter vibe. In the morning, it’s an easy spot to grab a pastry and juice for kids on the go. In the afternoon, adventurous eaters might enjoy trying sushi, but even if they don’t, the dessert selection has plenty of sweet choices to satisfy little palates.

There’s also ample seating nearby in the Polynesian’s upper-level lounge area or in the resort’s beautiful open-air lobby downstairs, making it a comfortable place for families to enjoy a light bite together.
