Dad’s Taking a break from Walt Disney World

Dad is taking a break from Walt Disney World. That’s it. I’m worn out. I need a break.

Yesterday, I got a note from a nice guy Gary. Gary is a great guy. He’s a big Disney fan who’s a little uneasy with the changes happening at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Dad’s been a little uneasy about the same thing… Dad talks about the changes at WDW.

Gary was most unhappy about Guardians of the Galaxy and Tower of Terror, and all the changes with Star Wars, Toy Story, Avatar…

Gary asked me if I could “make me feel better about what’s going on?”

I’ve got to say, I’ve been feeling much the same as Gary for a while. I’m really beat down. All the crazy rumors this summer, the price increases, the closures, and everything that’s been happening has got me tired of Disney.

I recommended to Gary that he take a break from Disney. To get away for a while. Don’t look at anything Disney for a couple of months and see if that brings back some of the Disney Magic.

I think it’s important to get away every once in a while. Sometimes we get too deep in Disney. We get so invested that any change, rumored or actual, even the great ones, are met with “Don’t Mess with my Walt Disney World.”

Gary thought that was good advice and was going to see if it worked. I think it will, in fact…

I think I’m going to take my own advice. I’m going to take a break from Walt Disney World. With Dad’s Guide, WDW Magazine, the Calendar, the Early Bird Sale, the new book and all the work we’ve been doing to get everything ready to print, I’ve been working really hard and I need a break.

Now before you panic too much, I’m just taking the long weekend off. I bought tickets to the big opening day football game and I’m going to Houston to pick up the The Man-Child and we are going to root on our Sooners. Boomer!

That’s not all. I’m not going to work at all this weekend. I told Mrs. Mom I was going to leave the laptop in the backpack this weekend. She laughed at me. But that’s my plan. I’m going to take a break.

Sometimes we need to take a step back and take a breath and a break.

So that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to take a break for the long weekend. I’ll be back next week. Hey, a 4 day break to an Air Traffic Controller is like 2 months to everyone else. (Yes, even former Air Traffic Controllers.)

Have a great weekend.

We will arrive in late September. Gotta go to the Wine & Food Festival. Maybe we can make it around the world. I am now retired Army. We are WDW fans. This will mark the 21st time at Shades of Green for my wife with Spring and Fall breaks when our daughter was in school. Now about the 10th for me since the late ’70’s. Every time is special. Couldn’t get Fast Passes for Frozen or reservations for Dinner at Be Our Guest this trip but we will be back in December.

Good idea! We’re leaving for Walt Disney World on Tuesday, Sept. 6th.and we’re very excited about it. But you do this basically 24/7 which could burn you out (at least temporarily). I have another suggestion – sit down and watch some of the old Walt Disney Classics such as Lady and the Tramp (my personal favorite) or Snow White or 101 Dalmations, you get the idea. Maybe that will help. I can’t wait to see how my 2 year old granddaughter reacts to Mickey and the Gang! Have a nice break!
