About Us – Dad and the Team

First a little background on Dad’s Guide to Walt Disney World (WDW).

This website was born when Dad saw an ad for the “Disney World Mom’s Panel“. Dad quickly applied for the position and was summarily rejected. (How could they?)

The rejection almost killed Dad. He was depressed for almost 10 seconds. (That’s almost an eternity for an Air Traffic Controller.)

To get over the rejection Dad decided to take matters into his own hands and start his own Walt Disney World web site. And pretty soon, he will take over the world. (Take that you phony purveyors of Mousedom.)

So you want to know a little more about Dad. You asked for it. Just for grins we’ll pretend this is a Frequently Asked Questions page.

Q. Tell me a little about yourself.
A. My name is Carl Trent. I’m a 50-ish year old Disney Dad. I am a retired Air Traffic Controller and now a full-time WDW blogger/writer/nut.

Q. What’s a Disney Dad?
A. A Disney Dad is just a Dad who likes Walt Disney World and wants to share it with all his friends. (And when his friends quit listening, he starts to share it with the world.)

Q. Where do you live?
A. We live in beautiful Edmond, Oklahoma. It’s a great little town just outside of Oklahoma City.

Q. Why should we listen to you?
A. I’m not sure I like the tone of that question. But here goes.

  • I know what I’m talking about. (Even my wife agrees. Usually.)
  • I’ve had 2 of the coolest jobs on the planet. (Air Traffic Controller and WDW blogger.)
  • I’ve raised a couple of great Disney World kids that feel the same way who are now passing on our passion to their families.
  • I’ve spent most of my life studying Walt Disney and especially the Walt World Resort. It’s my passion and my obsession. Of course there are the mundane details like 15 trips to WDW (including one with 15 family members), hundreds of books read, thousands of hours of research. Like I said, it’s my obsession.
  • Oh, yeah, there’s the Dad-A-Tude thing.

Q. Dad-A-Tude what’s that?
A. Dad-A-Tude is something really special. It’s the attitude that Dad’s have. That charming I’m always right especially when I’m wrong, the humble arrogance, the loving, giving, helpful quality that makes a Dad, a Dad. It’s my special gift.

Q. When are you going to Disney World again?
A. Whenever we can. Now that Dad is retired he has more time to go to WDW. In 2014, I went twice in 40 days. Hopefully 2015 will bring a couple of trips. Stand by.

Q. I have a question, will you answer it?
A. Yes. No, ladies, I’m not available. I’m happily married.

Oh, you mean can you send me a question. Sure, just fill out the Ask Dad page and I’ll be happy to answer all your questions. The more the merrier.

Q. Can we actually get in touch with you?
A. Dad loves to hear from his adoring fans. Just fill out the form on Dad’s Contact Dad page, just make sure to include your credit card information (just kidding).

Dad’s Guide to Dad’s Guide

Just a quick peak under the hood. Here’s a bit about the site itself.

Q. How long have you been around?

A. Dad’s Guide to WDW hit the Internet in October 2009.

Q. Is your site complete?

A. Nope. There are still a lot of new pages that I need to finish. I don’t have anything yet on Disney Springs and several of the restaurants. Look for lots of expansion in the future. Plus, Walt Disney World is always changing. Just look at what’s happening in Fantasyland. Wow. Lots of changes.

Q. I see these pictures with the blue borders on them. What’s that all about?
A.
Those pictures with the borders around them that you see at the bottoms of each page and even in some of the side areas are links to other pages with similar themes. For example if you were reading about the Magic Kingdom, you might see this …

You would just click on one of the pictures to find out more about the Magic Kingdom. Cool isn’t it?

Q. Hey Dad, is this a site just for guys?

A. How silly would that be, to create a site and exclude half the worlds population. No, Dad’s Guide to WDW is meant for everyone. Check it out, you’ll see. (Yes, occasionally I’ll talk directly to the guys, but sometimes those knuckleheads need some help.)

Q. Hey Dad, can you tell me a little about how you build a web site?

A. Thank you, I can. I do know a bit about building a web site (and a whole lot about how not to do it). My number one recommendation would be to find a program that will give you the tools to help you be successful. I use Site Build It (SBI). I’ve been thrilled with all the training they’ve given me through the years. Check them out here – Solo Build It! Home page. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask me.

Dad’s Bottom Line

While not one to talk about himself, Dad thought you might want to get to know him better. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to drop me a line.

And thank you from the bottom of my heart for stopping by.
